Greetings from Queenstown 2030!

Hand holding a postcard to a friend, from Queenstown, the world's most electric city in 2030
You have to see this place! I just arrived in the world's most electric destination and I'm absolutely buzzing.

^ an e-Hilux! This morning, I hired a converted electric 4WD to get up to the Remarkables - can you believe they retrofit old petrol 4x4s here now?

The best part: I charged it completely FREE at the community solar carpark in town. Free fuel from the sun! So good if you don't have good parking at home. There are community chargers everywhere that cost half what the old fast-chargers used to.

Remember when we used to pay like $2.60 a litre for petrol? Not here in Queenstown!
My Airbnb host told me her winter power bill used to be in the high hundreds per month. Sometimes they couldn’t really afford to heat the house consistently because gas prices were getting so high.

Now she's got a heat pump through a community bulk-buy deal that keeps the place super dry and warm. Her electrician was so good to work with around getting solar installed on the roof, which means she has really cheap power. I even loved her induction cooktop that boils water in seconds and has this super precise temperature control, it was *chef’s kiss*.

To explore the area, I borrowed an e-bike and rode out on the epic bike trails around here. It had plenty of range, but there were also all these solar charging stations along the way! I got pretty tired by the end so I just hopped on an electric bus, with my bike, and was home in time to go enjoy some nightlife.

The whole town centre feels different. The air is SO clean - no diesel buses, no petrol cars, no coal or gas heaters pumping out fumes. Everyone has access to cheap electricity, even the renters. And get this - there are enough batteries in homes and around the community now, so people feel way more resilient about natural disasters like the Alpine Fault going off and cutting power for weeks.
The Queenstown Electrification Hub on the waterfront is a must-see. They've got this countdown clock showing how many fossil fuel machines are left in town (spoiler: not many compared to how many there were 5 years ago!). Tourists are taking selfies with it and sharing Queenstown's story worldwide. The highlight was that there was an electric vehicles demo happening and check out what I got to do...

Definitely recommend coming to visit this electric paradise! ✨💚⚡
P.S. I sent you a postcard, did you get it?

This postcard is from YOUR future.

This isn't science fiction. Every single thing in this postcard is possible with today's technology. Electric vehicles, heat pumps, hot water heat pumps, and electric/induction cooktops are already cheaper than fossil fuel alternatives. Rooftop solar is the cheapest form of electricity, and batteries improve resilience against natural disasters like AF8.

The only difference between 2025 and 2030 is the choice to act.

Queenstown is building this future right now.
Will you be part of it?
